Welcome to the Rocky Bowl Special (RBS). The Rocky Bowl was designed to enhance the NCAA football college bowl experience by giving all games meaning to everyone. All participants select winners from each bowl game and weight their selections from 1 - 38 and select their winner of the National Championship game. Then just sit back and root for your teams. We hope that this blog site will enable everyone to share their thoughts, insults, brags, cheap shots, Husky slams, Cougar slams, whatever you like...

Rocky Bowl Kickoff Blog ...

It’s that time again Rocky Bowlers,

First order of business: If you would like to unsubscribe to the Rocky Bowl emails,  please reply with “Delete”, if you would like to use another email address please reply “new email”,  if you would like to add someone, please reply with “Please Add <insert email address here>”.  For a copy of Rockybowl for Dummies - Lesson one, please refer to Blog site at http://rockybowl2015.blogspot.com.
Now after all of the technical jargon, the Three Wise Men welcome the new, the past, the young and the old Rocky Bowlers back for another great year.

The format has been updated to work with the new “College Football Playoff” system put into place this year by the rocket scientists and politicians at the NCAA.  To top it off, there is now a grand total of 38 bowl games this year to evaluate, prognosticate the and apply confidence points to your projected bowl game winners.
The added twist is an extra game to select called the “AT&T Championship”.   Read on …
The commissioners deliberated long and hard on the format to choose; but in the end, it was 2 guiding principles that determined the format:
1)      Confidence points should be included to ensure the spirit of the Rocky Bowl is met.
2)      The Semi-Final and AT&T Championship game should influence the Rocky Bowl Champion by adding bonus for those confident to put big points on these games.
So, your confidence points that you apply to the winner of the two semi-final games (Rose and Sugar Bowls) can provide you an added bonus.  Your Team selections and confidence points will be carried forward to the AT&T Championship game.  You will then have a chance to double those points for the team you pick to win the Championship. For example, if you select Alabama to win the Sugar Bowl with 1 Point confidence, and you pick them to beat Oregon you will have a chance to earn a whopping 1 bonus point.  However, if you select Oregon to win the Rose Bowl with 38 points confidence, and you pick them to win the Championship, you will have a chance to earn 38 bonus points.
For you Rocky Bowl veterans, this boils down to one simple data point.  Do you want to start the 2014-2015 Rocky Bowl with a “Points Possible” of 741 + 1 = 742, or a “Points Possible” of 741 + 38 = 779.  The bottom line, “How confident are you”?
The new and improved selection sheet will guide you through this new process if you read it.  If you don’t read it and you fill it out incorrectly, your entry could be disqualified.  So read it! And follow the instructions!!! That includes FILLING-IN YOUR NAME ON YOUR ENTRY FORM BEFORE YOU SUBMIT it via email to rockybowl@live.com.
If you have been a Rocky Bowler in the past, you understand it is not so easy. And this format makes it even a bit harder, but we hope that it will add an interesting twist to the competition this year in line with the new College Football Playoff system.  If you’re new to the Rocky Bowl, then you will find out in a year or two that this whole Rocky Bowl thing is entirely luck for some and true skill for others.
You can find the Selection Sheet in the left column of this blog under "Rocky Bowl Selection Sheet ".  Clicking, downloading, reading and following instructions is your first step to your chance for big fun and winnings.  We will continue with a $20 entry fee.  Remember, all entries and $$$ must be received prior to the start time of first game. 8:00am PT, Dec 20.
Please use Rockybowl@live.com for all communications and for returning entry sheets.

Once again we will pay out $1,380.00 in prize money and the balance after minimal expenses for the Rocky Bowl party will go to charity. (We are hoping to reach $600.00 for charity again).   The Special Olympics will be the Rockybowl Charity this year as requested by our past Rocky Bowler,
Nira “Sis" Smith.  Last year the Rocky Bowl donated $600.00 to “The Children’s Institute”.  We thank you all for enabling our donations each year.
Reminder, Rocky Bowlers can enjoy the latest in the internet and social media craze and follow @rockybowl on Twitter  (http://twitter.com/rockybowl), Facebook (Friends of Rocky Bowl) and Windows Live (email: rockybowl@live.com).  We will keep everyone updated with score sheets and access to the blog at http://rockybowl2015.blogspot.com.
The three wise commissioners are unsure of where or what format the "Rockybowl Party "will be this year as the past location has been sold.  We are open to any and all suggestions.  The date for the party will be Saturday, December 27.

The commissioners hope that each and every one of you enjoys watching and caring about all 38 meaningless game.  In addition, please participate in the Blog and let us know if you have a blog to post.  We can do it for you if you are too scared or shy.
Happy Holidays and Good Bowling,
The Three Wise Commissioners
(Rocky, Doug and Jim)

  1. Bug report 2: The range in entered values is incorrect. It should be D12:D88. Maybe we should get some Apple guys to do this in Numbers next year :)

  3. Wake up this fine morning and SHOUT and SCREAM OUT LOUD,
"I AM GOING TO WIN THE $%$%$% ROCKYBOWL THIS YEAR"

Well, that what I did this morning and feel better even though I have shouted the same or similar statement I have never been in the money but love each and ever year we have been doing this.

The rules change to keep up with the games but the mission stays the same
"Watch or be interested in meaning less games over the bowl season"

I have already received entries and payments from some of the RB faithful and suggest you begin working on your entries soon.

With the new championship game it adds a different approach to those picks and your confidence points.

The commissioners are working hard on a location for the RB party which arrives in just two weeks and if anyone has a suggestion for a location that has a TV, an area to smoke cigars, and drink PLEASE let us know.
BUT A ROCKYBOWL PARTY WILL TAKE PLACE

Now be sure to download your entry sheet and enjoy the season of bowling

  4. RBowla’s...

The ink on the New Rules isn’t even dry and controversy swirls... Have you noticed the similarity (and unfairity) of the Supreme Court and the Rocky Bowl Commissioners?

    1. Appointed for Life (not elected)
    2. Accountable to NO ONE (not even their wives)
    3. Their Diktats are arbitrary and often on the ‘wrong side of history’ (so are their picks)
    4. Old White Guys... (need I say more?)
    5. Unrelenting U of W Dog fans (obvious bias towards PAC-12)
    6. Ceremonial Clothing (please don’t wear in public!)

Despite all that... Rocky Bowl is still the only game in town... if only Rocky Bowl loved me as much as I love it... Always a Brides Maid... never a Bobby Breeze...

The New Rules (the points on the Semi-Finals carry over to the Championship) make sense...probably the best solution to a bad problem. This means “Front Loaders” (Players that put all the big points on the early games) will be at a disadvantage... Same with “Back-Loaders”...

My daughter, now 11, has beaten me 4 of the last 5 years... I intend that to streak to come to an end...
